Restorative Yoga

At Fitness Revolution on Namskaket Road in Orleans, RESTORATIVE YOGA has been offered continuously since 2008.  Classes with Kathie meet Tuesday and Thursday from 12:15 to 1:15 in the yoga room there.

Private sessions of restorative yoga can be arranged with Kathie at Metta Massage.

During a restorative yoga practice, one is “awake and aware”,  meditating on breath.  Once the body has been aligned in one of the many beneficial poses, it is fully supported with bolsters, blankets, and blocks.  No effort is expended.  By focusing on breath, one is able to access the natural relaxation response.

In 1963, Indian teacher B.K.S. IYENGAR introduced yoga in the US.  He encouraged the use of props like blankets, blocks, and bolsters in yoga.   In 1995, physical therapist and yoga teacher Judith Lasater published RELAX AND RENEW about the benefits of restorative yoga.
